Hume, the flagship product of Graphaware, is an intelligent platform that harnesses the power of graphs for advanced analysis. It is currently utilized by law enforcement agencies, life science researchers, and financial organizations to extract valuable insights from vast amounts of complex and interconnected data sets.

Since October 2021, I have been a part of the product team, serving as the first UX Designer. My primary objective is to ensure that the platform offers a consistent user experience throughout, and to create intuitive features that enable less tech-savvy analysts to perform their work with ease.

Challenges

During the first few months of my tenure, I encountered several challenges. First, the highly-technical nature of the platform, making it a struggle for me to navigate and use. Feeling overwhelmed being the only designer in a company with dozens of developers.

Battling with a number of design inconsistencies and legacy decisions that were ingrained in the platform. The most challenging aspect, however, was the inability to receive direct client feedback, due to the sensitive nature of the data and the requirement for local installation of the platform.

Evolution

With consistent effort and the collaborative support of my colleagues, we successfully overcame the various challenges outlined above. As a team, we worked together to develop and implement crucial features, which I helped design, that resulted in great satisfaction from our clients.

These features included the ability to manually edit data, filter information, and visually query data, all of which enabled analysts to work more efficiently and effectively. While there is still work to be done, we have established a strong foundation of client feedback and platform consistency, and I am excited to continue pushing for future advancements.
